How Acupuncture Supports Fertility

From a biomedical perspective, acupuncture stimulates the nervous system and influences the body’s hormonal and neurotransmitter balance. These biochemical changes help regulate the body’s systems, enhance reproductive function, and promote both physical and emotional wellbeing — crucial elements in supporting fertility naturally.

Research in reproductive medicine has shown significant clinical benefits from the use of acupuncture and Chinese medicine. A study published in Fertility and Sterility reported that women undergoing IVF who also received acupuncture had a success rate of 42.5%, compared to 26.3% in the control group.

Similarly, the British Medical Journal published findings demonstrating that women who received acupuncture during IVF increased their chances of conception by 65% compared to those receiving sham treatments or no additional therapy.

An increasing body of evidence continues to support the effectiveness of acupuncture in treating a wide range of reproductive health conditions, including:

Male Fertility

Acupuncture isn’t just for female fertility. An Israeli study at Bar-Ilan University found that acupuncture improved sperm quantity and quality in men with fertility issues. The results suggest acupuncture could be a valuable, non-invasive treatment option for male infertility, especially for men with low sperm count and motility.
